Efena Hydrogen grew from a shared commitment to reduce energy and water consumption into a multidisciplinary team developing on-demand oxyhydrogen systems for real industrial applications.
Our journey was not a straight line. It was shaped by field measurements, ambitious experiments, unsuccessful prototypes, engineering discipline, and five founders whose complementary strengths came together around one purpose: helping organizations use energy more efficiently.
A foundation in energy efficiency
Ivan Meneses established Efficient Mechanical in Florida, applying mechanical engineering, licensed contracting, and energy-management experience to HVAC and energy-saving projects.
A shared international vision
After retiring from 22 years of service in the United States Coast Guard, Ivan met entrepreneur Mayer Wancejer. Their complementary experience in energy projects and international market development led to a collaboration focused on practical conservation technologies.
Field work in Colombia
The team prepared an energy-reduction initiative for manufacturing facilities and installed meters at a supermarket and hotel to collect operating data. The pandemic interrupted the projects, but not the mission.
Learning through experimentation
During the pandemic, Ivan and Mayer evaluated emerging energy technologies. Several concepts did not achieve the expected performance, but the work introduced them to mechatronics engineer Juan Felipe Casadiego and strengthened their approach to disciplined testing.
The hydrogen team takes shape
Work with physicist Christopher Torralva demonstrated a promising technical path. Juan Felipe contributed engineering and fabrication expertise, while Juan Diego Acevedo brought industrial engineering, planning, development coordination, and operational leadership.
SENA validation of the HHO Electrolyzer-W
Efena’s HHO Electrolyzer-W underwent technical validation with Colombia’s National Learning Service (SENA), providing an important independent reference point in the system’s development and verification process.
U.S. provisional patent application filed
In October 2025, Efena filed U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/884,191, marking an important step in protecting the company’s developing technology and intellectual property.
From prototypes to industrial applications
The team progressed from early stove and torch systems through additional experimental applications and ultimately to larger systems for ovens, boilers, and other combustion equipment. Each project added operating knowledge, engineering improvements, and field validation.
